The most important factor in basement flooring: moisture. Calgary basements can have humidity swings, potential for water entry, and a cold concrete slab. Here’s how to choose right.

Luxury Vinyl Plank (LVP) — Our Top Pick for Calgary Basements

  • 100% waterproof
  • Floats over concrete (no glue or nails needed)
  • Warm underfoot compared to tile
  • Huge variety of looks (hardwood, stone, tile patterns)
  • Handles basement humidity and temperature swings
  • Cost installed: $4–$10/sq ft

Add a thermal underlayment with built-in vapour barrier to reduce cold transmission from the slab and add a little insulating value.

Polished or Stained Concrete

  • Use what’s already there — grind, seal, or stain
  • Industrial, modern, minimal look
