REVIEWS

We’re not ‘star’ people, we’re people people.

Real feedback from real projects — and an honest word about what star ratings are actually worth.

On reviews and stars

We don’t believe a renovation, or the contractor who did it, should be chosen by reviews or stars. That’s fine for pizza shops or your local Airbnb, but not for something as important as your renovation.

As a proud member of Generation X, I’m suspect of anything that has five stars. And to be honest, I don’t think they’re an accurate representation of any business. Reviews can be faked. Stars can be bought.

We’d much rather meet you in person.

“If a number out of five could tell you who to trust with your house, this would be an easy business.”

The difference

With Olympic City, you’re meeting owners — people fully invested in the success of your renovation. We work hard to stay busy so we don’t need your project.

A hungry contractor is the one who’s going to blow smoke just to get the job: low-balling your “fixed-price quote,” then killing you with change orders that cost you thousands. That’s not how we do business.

Our price is fixed before work starts, and the only things that move it are a change you asked for or a discovery we documented and you approved in writing.

Better than a star rating
  • Ask us for references
  • Actually call them
  • Ask what went wrong and how we handled it
  • Come and meet us

Better than a review — come and see for yourself

If you want to know what it’s actually like to renovate with us, don’t read about it. Ask the people who did it.

We’d be happy to introduce you to some of our past clients. Real conversations, no script, and you can ask them whatever you want — including what went wrong and how we handled it. Every project has a moment like that. What matters is what happened next.

And we’ll take you to a couple of projects in progress. Not a finished showpiece with the dust swept out of it — a live job site, mid-build. You’ll see how the site is run, how clean it is, how the trades on it behave, and whether the place looks like somewhere you’d be comfortable having your own house.

Not many contractors will offer that, and the reason is usually the same: a job site in progress tells you the truth. Ours are worth walking through.

Just ask when we talk. We’ll set it up.

Ask us for any of these
  • A phone call with a past client
  • A walk-through of a job in progress
  • To see a finished project in person

No catch, and no obligation to hire us afterwards.

Why we offer it

A star rating takes five seconds to leave and tells you almost nothing. An hour on one of our sites, or twenty minutes on the phone with someone who lived through a renovation with us, tells you everything.

Start with design

It all starts with Michelle and me. You’re going to do this renovation with someone — maybe us, maybe someone else. Either way, it starts with design.

You need an accurate scope of work. Once you’ve gone through that effort, you can get a fixed price from us, or from any contractor. With a design and a scope of work in hand, you can shop it around: walk into any contractor, point at it and say “how much for this?” And they should be able to give you an answer.

That takes work. It is also the only way anyone can give you a number that means anything.

Ready when you are

Come and meet us. That will tell you more than any star rating ever could.
