How Big Should Your Island Be?
The sweet spot for a Calgary kitchen island is between 4′ and 10′ long, 36″-48″ deep. You need at least 42″ of walkway on all sides (48″ if you have two cooks). Anything smaller than 4′ x 2′ starts to feel like a cart. Anything bigger than 10′ needs two work zones.

Lighting Your Island
Hang 2-3 pendants, 30-36″ above the countertop, spaced evenly. Diameter of each pendant should be roughly 1/3 the island width. Calgary trends right now: oversized linear fixtures, bouclé/fabric shades, and warm metal finishes.
