Welcome to Olympic City!

You’re in the right place!  We are a husband and wife team who LOVE this business and love doing good work for good people.  We’re believe in the face-to-face version of this business built and not the one that hides behind websites and fake five star reviews.

As a husband-and-wife team we’ve been in and around the home business for over thirty years.  And because of that, we can’t possibly convey all of that experience in a few mouse clicks.  Reach out.  Connect.  Come see us at one of the home shows.  We are quietly one of the fastest growing renovation companies in Calgary and look forward to hearing about your project large or small. Just FYI, EVERY contractors bread and butter are smaller projects so don’t hesitate to reach out.

Design for Everyone, Now and Later

Universal design means your bathroom works for a toddler, a teenager, a 40-year-old, and an 85-year-old without feeling clinical. The best time to add accessibility features is during a renovation — not when you urgently need them.

Curbless Shower: The Non-Negotiable

A curbless (zero-threshold) shower is both the most beautiful shower design and the most accessible. No step to trip over, easy for wheelchairs and walkers, and gorgeous in any style.

  • Minimum size: 36″×36″ (absolute min)
  • Recommended: 42″×42″ or larger
  • Wheelchair accessible: 60″×36″ minimum, 60″×60″ preferred

Blocking: Do It Now, Use It Later

Install blocking (3/4″ plywood behind drywall) in shower and toilet areas during renovation. When you need grab bars later, they anchor into solid blocking — no stud hunting, no structural concerns.

  • Shower: blocking from 33–36″ height on three walls
  • Toilet: blocking at 33–36″ on both side walls
  • Cost to add during reno: $200–$500 (labour only)
  • Cost to add after (open wall, install, patch, repaint): $800–$2,500

Toilet Height: Comfort Height Makes a Difference

Standard toilets sit at 15″ seat height. “Comfort height” (ADA-compliant) toilets are 17–19″. Nearly everyone finds the taller height easier on knees and hips. Standard upgrade from $50 to $150 more than standard height.

Slip-Resistant Flooring

  • Shower floor: mosaic tile (2″×2″ or 1″×1″) provides more grout lines for grip
  • Bathroom floor: matte porcelain with coefficient of friction ≥ 0.50 (wet)
  • Avoid: polished marble, very large smooth tiles in wet areas

Knee Clearance Under Vanity

A wall-hung vanity with 27–29″ knee clearance allows wheelchair access. Even if you don’t need it now, it’s a useful resale feature and works aesthetically as a floating vanity.
